Grow a pair…of eyebrows

Lily Collins, Cara Delevingne, Kim Kardashian and Camilla Belle. These women rock a serious brow.

Bold brows have been popular for some time now. Some women are blessed with them, some women are like me and wonder where their eyebrows went every time they snap a selfie.

Operation “Grow a pair…of eyebrows” is born out of sheer envy of the brows shown above. I am determined to grow some serious eyebrows. However, I don’t want to be walking around with unruly, unkempt, unshaped brows for the next month. So this is for all you ladies out there that have been wanting to regrow those brows but refuse to have weird, unshapely caterpillars living above their eyes. Here are my secrets to growing out your brows without looking like this…

oscar the grouch

Alright ladies let’s get started! Pull out the tweezers…wait I thought we were growing our brows out!? We are, but we don’t want to be joining the ranks of good ol’ Oscar while we strive for Delevingne-esque arches. So, like I said, pull out those tweezers and then study this picture:

We’ve seen this diagram a million and one times. Which is good, because it’s a good diagram. It tells you exactly where your brow should start, arch and then end. But it doesn’t help you determine how to preserve thickness in your brows. I have updated this timeless diagram with my own additions to help us grow out our brows:

imagesCAYVXDFVIn order to grow out bold, shapely brows we need to preserve as many hairs as we can, but we also need to get rid of hairs that don’t NEED to be there. So we are only going to be plucking stray hairs that are more than 0.5 cm away from our brows. Any hair that falls within 0.5 cm is potentially part of our new brow shape, so we want to save them.

We CAN grow our brows without sporting a dreaded unibrow, and we WILL.

I will be updating you with my brow growth progress here and on Instagram. Thanks for checking out this post! I’d love it if you left a comment!

navy baby

I have a quick post today on a the makeup that I wore for my birthday a few days ago. I went for a dramatic eye look featuring a beautiful shimmering blue shadow that I am in LOVE with!

This look is very simple to do and if you want to find out how I did it keep reading!

I used two different palettes to achieve this look the Tarte NeutralEYES Natural Eyes Palette and the Sleek Makeup i-Divine in Oh So Special.

  1. I started with an eye primer.
  2. I used the matte navy eyeshadow from the Tarte palette to line the upper lash line and create a slightly winged shape at the outer corner. I then blended this until I was happy with how it looked.
  3. I used a matte mauve shade from the Sleek palette (bottom row, second in from the right side) and blended into my crease.
  4. I blended the two matte shades (mauve and blue) together until it looked seamless.
  5. I patted a shimmery navy blue from the Sleek palette (top row, second in from the right side) over the matte navy shadow. I then blended the edges of the shimmer so that it faded into the matte mauve colour.
  6. I used that same shimmery blue colour to line the outer 2/3 of my lower lashline.
  7. I used a black gel liner to create a thin line on my upper lashline.
  8. I used a pair of strip lashes to add thickness and length to my natural lashes.
  9. I coated my bottom lashes with 3 coats of mascara.

I was really pleased with how this eye look turned out! If you like this kind of look let me know in comments. I love reading feedback from you!

Valentine’s Day Inspired Look

Hi everyone! Valentine’s day is just around the corner. Some people call it a Hallmark Holiday while others take it as an opportunity to profess their undying love. Whether you celebrate it or not, the colours associated with Valentine’s day definitely make for a pretty #fotd.

For this look I went for a pink and purple eye look, fresh dewy skin and pretty pink lips.

Don’t mind the hair, I’ll make more of an effort when I actually have to leave the house.

1. Start with clean, well moisturized skin. Use a moisturize with SPF! See my current favourite here.
2. I applied Clinique Stay Matte foundation in 02 Alabaster with my favourite foundation brush.
3. Mix Elf Studio HD Blush in Headliner with Elf Shimmering Facial Whip in Pink Lemonade on the back of your hand. Apply to the tops of the apples of your cheeks and blend out with a duo fibre brush.
4. Powder is optional, if you have oily skin like me you’ll need a powder even if you’re going for a fresh, dewy look. For those with dry skin you can either use a translucent powder or a setting spray. I used Cover FX Pressed Mineral Foundation in G40 (formerly M40)

2014-02-04 15.01Eyes:
1. Prime the eyes with MAC Paint Pot in Bare Study
2. Sweep the light pink shade from Loreal Paris HIP Metallic Shadow Duo all across the lids. I extended mine slightly to create a V shape on the outer lid.
3. Line the upper lash line with a soft brown pencil liner.
4. Smudge out the brown liner with a smudge brush and the dark purple shadow from the Loreal eyeshadow duo.
5. Line the upper waterline with the same brown pencil
6. Curl eyelashes and apply lots of black mascara.

2014-02-04 15.03

1. I prepped my lips with Aquaphor Healing Ointment
2. I lightly lined my lips with a nude lip liner and then blended the line in with my finger.
3. Lastly I lightly applied Too Faced lipstick in Marshmallow Bunny and blended that in with my fingers as well to achieve a very natural looking lip.

soft smoke

Today I’m going to show you a soft smokey eye. This is a staple look. It’s perfect for any and every occasion. Date night? heck yes! Wedding? perfect! Girls night out? absolutely! Walking the dog? sure!

For this look I used Lancome Colour Design Eyeshadow Palette in 100 Taupe Craze. These are such beautiful colours! I can’t even!! This palette would be perfect for everyday wear, day to night transitions and bridal makeup. I think the rosy pinks and soft browns work really well to make hazel and green eyes POP!

Start with an eyeshadow primer. I used Too Faced Shadow Insurance. With the palette, start with 3 and blend through the whole crease. Then use 5 to create a soft V shape at the outer edge of the lid then softly blend these two colours together. Also use 5 to line the lower lash line, then blend that line out to create that soft hazy look under the eyes. Pat 2 over the centre of the lid to bring light to this area. Mix 1 and 4 and highlight the inner corner. Lastly I used a black eyeshadow and a slanted eyeliner brush like this one to line the upper lash line. Finish with two or three coats of black mascara on the top and bottom lashes. I used Benefits They’re Real! in black.

The smokey eye can be a hard eye look to master, but once you get it you can start playing around with different colour combinations and create an endless amount of looks. My tip to master the smokey eye…a quality blending brush. I used this blending brush from Sigma. Other brushes to consider are the MAC #217, Quo crease brush, and Real Techniques base shadow brush.

Here is the finished look:
